Digital international youth work in Leipzig

A digital photo exhibition, a campaign to save international youth work and a new colleague: this is work of the Competence Centre for International Youth Work and non-formal Education of KINDERVEREINIGUNG Leipzig e.V. in the first quartal of 2021.

Since October a group of 8 young people from Leipzig is meeting regularly on a digital basis to create their own international youth exchange in summer 2021. They are supported by two young peer-coaches, who have experiences in international youth work. This is part of the project wir weit weg (we far away). Let’s hop, that corona will allow them to travel in summer…

In February we conducted a very successful and impressing international digital exchange of photographies – within our „February of Fotografy“. Young people and staff from more than 10 countries contributed more than 70 pictures. The exhibiton was displayed on Instagram and still is visible here: https://gallery.kvleipzig-international.de/february-of-fotografy/

Together with four more organizations from Germany we launched an initiative to save the European Youth Work from perishing. The cut of funding for digital activities in the Erasmus+ YOUTH IN ACTION program in times of corona has to be reversed. Our initiative did a survey amongst 40 German organizations, who are affected and started a campaign to bring the lump sums of Erasmus+ funding for digital exchanges back to 100% again. Please read further information and engage in your contry. Address MEPs and other relevant stakeholders, who could help with this. Since 1st April we have a new colleague, Caroline Lorenz, who will coordinate the project wir weit weg (we far away) in five municipalities in Saxony for the next three years. wir weit weg is a participatice project in the field of international youth work, which includes young people, who usually don’t have access to international activites. The project is funded by the German foundation Stiftung Mercator.
